Weight Watcher's Corner on : How to Control Obesity

Weight Watcher's
! consult your doctor before engaging in any extensive program to lose weight. The advise of a dietitian is also useful. An obese person may need psychological help as well especially if a person is young and was teased because of his/ her obesity. The first step in psychological treatment is to remove these feelings and to treat obesity as a medical problem.

1. DIET - any reducing diet must provide fewer calories. For example if a man who wants to lose weight needs 3,000 calories a day to maintain his weight with his habit of life, he should eat only 2,000 calories a day to lose 0.9 kg. of weight per week. Also a reducing diet should be easy to cook and good tasting !

2. EXERCISE - A person going on a reducing diet should take more exercise . But an obese
person should not suddenly go on a program of prolonged, heavy exercise. The strain on
the heart would be dangerous.

One good way to start is to take daily walks, gradually increasing duration and more
demanding exercise.

3. Surgery - This procedure is done to fat people whose obesity is life threatening. In
this case, the stomach is reduced using a giant stapling device- also called gastroplasty.
Watch gastroplasty ( not for the faint hearted ! )

4. Liposuction - otherwide known as lipoplasty or fat modelling, is a cosmetic surgery
operation that removes fat from the different sites of the human body. Areas can
range from the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms and elsewhere. The fat is removed
via a cannula ( a hollow tube) and aspirator.

There are risks involved in this particular weight control / body contouring method
so Weight Watchers, beware - this is not for everybody ( even to those with money
to spare !) NOTE : THE FF. VIDEO IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN / FAINT HEARTED.

5. DIET PILLS - see mechanism of action / side effects, etc.
